FUN FACTS 'BOUT CATS 

Did you know prior to 1931 all Cats were painted grey?  They couldn't be seen very well in bad weather whilst roading in the mid-western states in the USA - so were painted yellow - nicknamed 'Highway yellow' or Cat yellow, which it still is today.

 A limited number of Cat RD6 speeders were produced and only 5 were exported to NZ. We have a restored TS40 with a dragline attachment on display.

 What year did Bob Semple, the Minister of Works, drive a Cat RD8 over a wheelbarrow and shovel after quoting "It was time to make the machine the slave of man, everyman"   -  [1st Aug]   1936.

 Any idea how many Cat D8's the NZ Public Works Dept owned when WWII broke out?  81

Did you know Gough Gough and Hamer topped the worldwide sales for Caterpillar machinery in 1937, '38 & '39.  They were presented with a sliver cup which is on display at Caterpillar headquarters in Peoria, Illinois.

 Gough Gough and Hamer were originally an electrical engineering business in Christchurch and became dealers for Caterpillar tractors in 1932.  

New Zealander's were highly sought after in WWII as experienced heavy machinery engineers and operators. These skills can be attributed to bush work, breaking in the cut-over land and the roading of our country.  Caterpillar machinery was renowned for its horsepower during these years.
